Run short surveys on your board and widget

In this article

Create a survey

In the sidebar, open Surveys and click New survey. Start with a template or a blank question, then write a question up to 200 characters. Choose Rating, a 1-to-5 scale from Not happy to Very happy, or Poll, where people choose one of 2 to 5 options. Choose what happens after an answer, try the live preview, then save a draft or publish the survey. Preview answers are not recorded.

Save and edit drafts

Drafts are private to your team and do not appear on the Feedback Portal or in your widget. Visitors cannot answer them. You can save a draft before completing its question or poll options, then reopen it from Surveys and choose Edit. A survey's type is fixed once saved, including while it is a draft. Publishing checks that the question and options are complete.

Choose what happens after an answer

Ask for a comment displays a text box for additional feedback and is on unless you turn it off. Ask for a review displays a button linking to your page on a review site you choose. Everyone who answers sees the review button, regardless of their answer.

Link surveys to requests

A rating can optionally be associated with a request using About a request. This association appears on your results page but is not shown to visitors. For a poll, each option can optionally link to a board request. That link appears on the Feedback Portal only while the request is public.

Edit a live survey

Open the survey from Surveys and click Edit to change its question, options, associated request, or After they answer settings. Changes show on your board at once. You cannot change a survey's type; create a new survey for a different type. Existing answers stay when you edit: renamed options keep their answers, and answers for removed options remain in the total as Removed option.

Where visitors see surveys

Surveys appear at the top of the Features tab on your Feedback Portal and in your embed, at the top of the idea box and on the board view. Visitors see the newest live survey they have not answered or dismissed yet. Not now hides it in their browser. Surveys show on Public, Unlisted, and Hidden boards. Visitors cannot answer on a Private board because they cannot reach its Feedback Portal.

How visitors answer

Visitors answer by tapping a rating face or poll option; the answer is saved immediately. They can then add a comment and send it, or leave it blank. If Ask for a review is on, the review button appears next. Anyone who can see the board can answer; Visitor email and Patreon and Discord vote gates do not apply to surveys. Each visitor gets one answer per survey, counted by browser, as with a no-login vote. If you answer your own survey, your answer appears in the results too.

View survey results

The Surveys list shows each survey's status and answer count. Open a survey to see its answer total, the average rating out of 5 when it is a rating, and how answers are distributed across the scale or poll options. Results include each answer and its comment, plus the person's name and email when known; otherwise the person appears as Visitor. Voted for shows requests that person voted for on your board. The board can know a person's name and email when an embed identifies them or when they provided an email on the board earlier in the same visit. The email is not verified. Voted for matches votes from the same browser and votes cast with the email associated with the answer; votes from another browser or device under a different email do not appear.

Close, reopen, or delete a survey

Close survey removes a survey from your board but keeps its answers. Visitors answering at that moment are told it has closed. Reopen makes a closed survey live again. Delete removes the survey and all its answers, and cannot be undone.
